Now the green blade--handbells SAMPLE score.pdf

This festive piece, as you might know already, would work well both for Christmas AND Easter! In many hymnals, this hymn tune is "Sing we now of Christmas" and also "Now the green blade riseth".

Opening in a mysterious E minor, and employing a singing bell technique, the piece gives the listener a chance to hear the tune clearly, set against open fifths and sparse voicing.

The B section moves to the relative major and takes the tune into a more joyful mode. The rhythmic pulsing in the bass clef is driven by the thumb damp technique by the C5 player. A few easily accessible runs and some well-placed shakes near the end will ensure this piece is well-received by your congregation.
