Elsa's Procession

Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral is a movement from Act 2 of Richard Wagner's famous 1848 opera, Lohengrin. This is a truly moving work, which starts gently with woodwinds and organ alone, and builds as the brass enter. The end is a monumental wall of triumphant sound, capped by the addition of timpani, crash cymbals and bass drum.

This work is well known in wind band circles, though I originally arranged it for this smaller ensemble for use at my own wedding after not being able to locate a suitable chamber ensemble version. This version was transcribed directly from the wind band score, and is identical in length.
